My news

This page is designed to keep you informed of my latest news, events concerning myself, and to present items of interest to those who would like to keep in touch with what I get up to here in Bristol and elsewhere. Consider it as an occasional mini-blog, or an extended in-house version of Twitter.

There’s also a practical side to this page: it is here where I will announce, for example, when I am not available to take sessions, perhaps because I am travelling or simply taking a break, as well as information about my equipment and implements and new items that I may acquire from time to time.

If it’s easier for some of you to follow me on Twitter, I’ve made it simple: just click on the Twitter icon to the right, and go straight to my profile to follow me on Twitter.

But since you’re here, why not take a look at my news below.

BBFC consultation: a look at responses

Mon. 14 May 2018

Those who like to keep informed on what is happening in the world of BDSM also need to pay attention to the political world. It may be unfortunate that this is the case, but it is the reality. The latest serious case-in-point is the impending introduction of age verification (AV) for an as-yet-unspecified range of Web sites. The new, government-appointed regulator, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), recently concluded a “public consultation” on AV, and the first roundups of the results are beginning to appear...Read more

A tale of two butchers

A tale of two butchers

This time last week a butcher in Stoke-on-Trent was making the local news with his raucous street sign. When this came to my attention I remembered photos I’d taken of a butcher’s shop during my annual travels. It occurred to me that both butchers were employing novel measures to attract business: one with his suggestive signage, and the other with a choice...Read more

I don’t think the railways would get away with this today

I don’t think the railways would get away with this today

Regular readers of my News page will not be surprised to know I was tickled (metaphorically speaking) when this old cast-iron railway plaque, allegedly produced by the Somerset & Dorset Railway dating from 1864, came to my attention. Of course it would take my interest, wouldn’t it. Have a read of it and you’ll see why.

Unfortunately I missed out on an opportunity...Read more

After the BBFC age-verification consultation, here is Backlash’s response

Wed. 25 Apr. 2018

The “public consultation” on the introduction of age verification (AV) by the body appointed to administer its implementation, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), ended on Monday.

Why do I use inverted commas around the term “public consultation”? Simply because in my experience such “public consultations” are merely going through the motions of being seen to consult the public – a farcical, cynical box-ticking exercise to help legitimise what has already been decided in advance. However, this is no reason not to make one’s opinion known, and in this spirit I would like to applaud Backlash for their official response to...Read more

Important notice: I will be unavailable for sessions for four days in May

Sat. 20 Apr. 2018

One of the purposes of my News page is to post notices of special activities, and also when I will not be available for any activities at all. This notice serves the latter purpose: I will be unavailable for sessioning from Thursday 10 May to Sunday 13 May inclusive.

Now, I normally do not session on Sundays in any case, although, depending on necessarily special circumstances the occasional exception is not unknown, but I mention my unavailability in this present context for the sake of thoroughness and accuracy. Thus to summarise and to absolutely clarify: my last day of sessioning before my short break...Read more

Fifty drops of candles

If you think the title of this item is a play on a particular series of books and films that has attracted much attention and notoriety over the last few years, you will be correct.

However, it’s not all about the Fifty Shades of Grey fashion/craze/controversy; no, it presents a session held in my Studio to celebrate a special birthday. In this session I employed wax play; specifically, 50 drops of wax from each of six different-coloured candles, progressing from light pink to black: one drop for each year on each nipple – and I didn’t stop at the nipples. Of course, preparation was involved, in this case mostly with wrapping...Read more

Publicly acknowledging the gifts of faithfuls

One of my faithfuls recently gifted me a selection of chocolates that ticks most of the boxes of what constitutes my favourite type of chocolate: dark, and hand-made. That’s them, pictured: Holdsworth “divinely decadent handmade chocolates and truffles”, from the Peak District in Derbyshire.

While I generally have a preference for dark Belgian chocolate, I’m looking forward to trying these as they do indeed look “divinely decadent”...Read more

Demonstrating innovation with neodymium magnets

One of the pleasures I take in what I do is the opportunity to be innovative, and even inventive, in being the source of new sensory experiences. One way I do this is to press into service all manner of objects that aren’t normally associated with BDSM practice. Here is a case in point: magnetic balls serving time as nipple-clamping devices...Read more

Another cane meets a noble demise

A broken cane... it happens from time to time. Of course I’m not talking about your common, garden-variety, everyday household accident in the way that one might accidentally break a broom or a duster. A cane in my possession doesn’t break because I happened to leave it lying on the floor and...Read more

Scholarly works look at history, culture, pain and arousal

A friend of mine, when visiting not too long ago, brought with him a selection of his books. They were new acquisitions, so he was keen to show them to me. I was indeed interested, as I’m sure you’ll understand when I elaborate on their nature.

Firstly, a good place to start is revealing their titles, four titles to be exact: In Praise of the Whip: A Cultural History of Arousal; Sex With Shakespeare. Here’s Much To Do With Pain, But More With Love; A History of the Rod; and The Art of Discipline: A Pictorial History of the Smacked Bottom.

In Praise of the Whip: A Cultural History of Arousal is by Niklaus Largier, a Swiss academic...Read more
